A Set of Ceramic Desk Lamps Inspired by Coral

Abstract

This set of ceramic desk lamps was inspired by fantastic shapes, colors and textures of coral. The ceramic was used as material in creating the artwork have three objectives as 1) To convey beauty of the coral can be expressed through a set of ceramic desk lamps. 2) To develop a patterns of the desk lamp can be variously. 3) To the set of ceramic desk lamps can be used as a model or a guideline of related ceramics teaching and learning and it can be used as a research reference for further reteach. This research is applied research by selecting a format based on the concept of impression shapes, colors and textures of coral, to consider the pattern. And can be produced as a practical ceramic lamp. The procedures of the research were: 1) Studied coral information and designs drafts to master work three dimensional. 2) Studied of porcelain clay to see the physical property burned fired at a temperature of 1,220 degrees celsius and atmospheric oxidation. 3) Analysis design works. 4) Created a model and make plaster mold. 5) The product were formed by casting porcelain clay in plaster mold making. The material was 1) Porcelain clay 2) Plaster 3) Scales 4) An oven 5) A camera 6) A computer. The research results revealed that 1)The beauty of the coral can be expressed through a set of ceramic desk lamps. 2) The patterns of the desk lamp can be variously developed. 3) The set of ceramic desk lamps can be used as a model or a guideline of related ceramics teaching and learning and it can be used as a research reference for further reteach. 4) The steps of creating the ceramic desk lamps inspired by coral were found and problems and solutions were uncovered while creating the set of ceramic desk lamps using porcelain clay.
