The Supportive Force of Life
Abstract
The thesis "The Buoyancy of Life" is a creative exploration inspired by my family’s
profession. Growing up immersed in the atmosphere of a machine shop, I witnessed
its golden era as well as the turbulent economic storms that eventually forced the
business to close. However, through the support and resilience of our family, the
business was revived and flourished once again. This journey led me to realize the
profound value of “Buoyancy” the fundamental support, encouragement, and
strength from family that propels one forward through life’s journey.
The core concept focuses on portraying the interconnectedness and the power
of mutual support through the symbolic use of lathes and chains. These elements
represent the supportive forces within a family; the chains, in particular, symbolize the
emotional strength that sustains and stabilizes life, allowing it to move forward with
grace and fortitude.
In terms of execution, I utilize Etching and Aquatint techniques. These methods
allow for a meticulous exploration of light and shadow, creating emotional depth and
aesthetic richness. This collection of work is a reflection of my lived experience,
translated into a visual language that speaks of “Buoyancy” in both physical and
spiritual dimensions a vital force that empowers human beings to live with stability
and beauty.
