THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE QUALITY WORKING LIFE OF THE PRISON WARDERS AT THONBURI REMAND PRISON

Abstract

The objectives were to specify the causes of work stress and the quality of working life of prison warders; to compare the quality of working life of the prison warders classified by personal characteristics; and to explain the relationship between the work stress and the quality of working experience of the prison warders. A quantitative research approach was employed. Data collected by a survey questionnaire based on a sample of 170 prison warders under the duty of Thonburi Remand Prison. Analysis of the data was performed using the statistical Package, namely, frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, analysis of variance, and Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient. Results revealed that the causes of the work stress were relationships with colleagues, excessive workloads, and demanding the works. The quality of working life consisted of organizational engagement and relationship building with colleagues and supervisors, respectively; gender, educational level, government service, age, and a monthly income of the prison warders affected the quality of working life with statistical significance at .05; and the work stress was positively correlated with the quality of working life of the prison warders at a low level with statistical significance at .01.
