    Abstract
The main objectives of this research were to analyze open space in various areas of the developed urban area, to search and identify waste spaces in different types, and to design them as green areas showing the characteristics of space and softscape elements that reflected quality of use in both recreation and aesthetics. Two stage data collection process, survey of physical characteristics of the area and area activity observation, were used to analyze the agreement and appropriateness of landscape elements and the physical environment to encourage green area. The study found the four types of waste space in Charoenkrung Bangrak district that could be used as a target space to increase the green space according to the studied criteria as followings; 1) on right of way open space 2) front building open space 3) around building open space and 4) on owner open space. The results showed that these open spaces had the following characteristics of waste space; 1) unutilized space 2) underutilized space 3) leftover space. To recover these waste spaces therefore, was to design the landscape elements in the following studied issues; 1) layout (function and linking area), 2) area elements (supporting surface of use, facilities, and plantation), and 3) aesthetics (the atmosphere of the area, such as shadiness, order, simplicity, etc.) Suggestions of the study could be concluded that if the green area was considered along with the development or improvement of the area where land in urban communities was used for construction to support activity, then a green space would fit that area. Thus, urban designers, city planners, and those involved in urban development should include green area into consideration in the process of design, site plan, project setting, and various plans that relevant.
