The objectives of this research were to analyze cost and return of dairy farms in Papayom and identify
problems of raising dairy cattle in Papayom District. Data were collected by interviewing 20 dairy farmers (16
medium holders and 4 small holders) Data were collected during January-June 2015. Descriptive statistics were
used to analyze data. Results showed that all farmers are members of the Co-operative and also have sold raw
milk to the Co-operative. Milk production of medium farm was 13.07 kg/head/day greater than that from small
farms (10.49 kg/head/day). The production cost for medium farms was 1,202,347.44 Baht/year in which 87.20 %
and 12.80 % were variable cost and fixed cost, respectively whereas production cost for small farms was
885,574.50 Baht/year in which 89.04 % and 10.96 % were variable cost and fixed cost, respectively. Economic
profit, accounting profit and profit from selling raw milk for medium and small size farms were: 312,417.06, -
119,937.34; 455,871.30,-27,907.17 and 598,292.50, 120,619.67 Baht/year, respectively.
