The conditions and the adjustment guidelines of elderly people who have raised their grandchildren of Generation-Z in Amphoe Banpong, Changwat Ratchaburi
Abstract
The objectives of this research were 1) to study the conditions and contexts of elderly people on raising
children of Generation Z. 2) to study the problems of elderly people who had been raising their grandchildren of
Generation Z. 3.) to identify the adjustment guidelines of problems on raising children of Generation Z in the
field of Amphoe Banpong, Changwat Ratchaburi. This research was the qualitative research by using content
analysis of Phenomenology and collected data by in-depth interview. Key Informants were ten elderly people
who were 60 years old and over, were raising their grandchildren and lived in Amphoe Banpong, Changwat
Ratchaburi. In term of the conditions and contexts of elderly people on raising children of Generation Z, the
study was found that the most of elderly people had borne the burden to raise children because parents of
children had to work outside the home in order to get income for supporting their families. The elderly people
had both roles; full-time and temporary-time on raising children, and they were took care everything about daily
routine of children. The results of research were found that the problems in each elderly person on raising
children were different because each child had different characteristics and behaviors, so the choosing solutions,
adjustment guidelines and adapting of elderly people was different. The most elderly people often used
compromise and avoided punishment.
