Savings Behavior before retirement of University's employee : in case of three southern border provinces in Thailand
Abstract
This study aims to investigate the personal factors, related to saving behavior before retirement of
university’s employee particularly in three southern border provinces. The study was considered a survey
research that utilized a questionnaire as a research tool. The research population was university’s academic
employee in in three southern border provinces. Consequently, the universities in particular area were Yala
Rajabhat University, Prince of Songkhla University (Pattani campus) and Prince of Naradhiwas University. The
research applied stratified random sampling approach which consisted of 314 samples and analyzed the
frequency, percentage and chi square test by using sophisticated program.
The analysis revealed that the 80.25 % of university employee had saving and majority was female,
age 31-40 years and married status. Most of the employee who have the savings was also a benefactor of 1-2
persons in the household. Regarding to work experience, the employee had been working with university for
3-6 years. The average salary was in between 15,000-25,000 baht, conversely the expenses was 10,000-25,000
baht per month. The savings rate was 10-20% which was emergency purpose occasionally in term of bank
savings in commercial banks.
According to relationship between personal factors and savings behavior of university employee, the
study stated that gender, average income and average expenses consisted of significant associated with
savings behavior of university’s employee at 95% significant level.
