Abstract
This qualitative research relates to Music Performance Studies in graduate level majoring in Music
Performance. The researcher selects to study trumpet repertoire featuring in graduate recital, which is the Master
of Music degree's requirement. The pieces include 1) Concerto in D Major by Giuseppe Torelli, 2) Three Preludes
by George Gershwin, and 3) Sonata for Trumpet and Piano by Kent Wheeler Kennan.
The researcher studies historical background, biography of the composers, musical form, problems and
solutions of technical problems in trumpet playing related to the pieces. Moreover, the researcher exhibits 2
important playing problems featured in the selected pieces including 1) problem of attacking notes, and 2)
problem of tonguing technique. The solutions of the problems were address and consulted to trumpet experts
for approving the possibilities of the solutions and additional recommendation for a better result.
This research finding is to providing knowledge and and offering an optional method of trumpet’s
technical problems of attacking notes and tonguing technique in order to implement in ones’ daily practicing or
to achieve a higher trumpet playing level.
