The mediating effect of Coping Strategies between Optimism and Job Satisfaction of Employees in an autonomous university
Abstract
The purpose of survey research was to study relationship of optimism and Job satisfaction with the effects
coping strategies as a mediator
The Population in this research consisted of 373 staff in an autonomous university. The data was collected
by 4 sets of questionnaires such as Optimism, Job satisfaction and coping strategies.
Statistical analyses were frequency, percentage, Mean, Standard Deviation, Pearson Moment Correlation
and Multiple Regression. The results of the research were as follows:
1. Analysis of Pearson’s correlation :
1.1 Results of the study revealed the positive correlation between optimism and Active Coping at .67 (r
= .67, p < .01) and Passive Coping at .73 (r = .73, p < .01)
1.2 Results of the study revealed the positive correlation between optimism and job satisfaction at
.789 (r = .78, p < .01)
1.3 Results of the study revealed the positive correlation between Active Coping at .740 (r = .74, p <
.01) and Passive Coping at .84 (r = . 84, p < .01)
2. Analysis of Coping strategies as mediating variable:
2.1 Active Coping was partial mediator between relationship of optimism and job satisfaction (z = 6.11,
p < .05)
2.2 Passive Coping was partial mediator between relationship of optimism and job satisfaction (z =
4.27, p < .05)
