Overweight and Health Behavior of the Students and Personnel in Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon

The purposes of this research were to study and compare overweight and health behaviors
of students and personnel of Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon. The students
were classified by sex and the personnel were categorized as those in academic fields and those in
administrative sections. Questionnaires were employed to collect the data. The total samples were
713 persons: 401 students and 312 personnel. 713 questionnaires were returned as 100 %. The
completed data were analyzed by computing in terms of percentage, means, standard deviation
and t-test; the level of significant difference was at .05. The findings were as follows.
1. The students’ average body mass index was in the normal range. They had average
body composition and there was no overweight problem, i.e. their average body mass
index was 22.60. The result found in the personnel was related to overweight: their
average body mass index was 23.11.
2. The risk behaviors of both students and personnel were in the average level.
3. The health promotion behaviors of both students and personnel were in the average
level.
4. The average health behaviors of both male and female students were not different.
However, one of the risk behaviors was found significantly different which was that
they eat instant noodles and snacks; and that of the health promotion behaviors
which was that they ate fruit and they exercised properly.
5. The average health behaviors of the personnel were not different. However, one of the
risk behaviors was found significantly different which was smoking cigarettes or using
drugs.
