Laos Krang’ Community in Nakornpathom province and transmission of parading the Songkran flag
Abstract
It was found that community and Songkran Flag Parade Tradition of Laos Krang in Nakhonpathom
Province is valuable from the past to present. It is the folk wisdom taught in the time of emigration to Thailand.
Details in the flag include the stories of folkways which reflect the folk wisdom. This tradition still continues
conservation. The pattern of the flag decoration has been changed by using the artificial flowers instead of the
real ones.
The way to conserve this Songkran Flag is that there should be hold the ancient tradition in the teaching
this tradition by the senior people in the community so that young people can be trained and learn about the
history of their tribe and the importance of the ancient culture especially the knowledge of Songkran Flag both
inside and outside schools. Also this culture should be included in the curriculum in the education. The pattern
of the flag decoration and activities should be conserved. Some villages have changed the activities which are
suitable for the present time but still keep the old pattern and identity.
The Songkran Flag Tradition should be supported to be sustainable cultural tourism of Nakhonpathom
Province and presented it by local scholars. This can be applied to be the product to promote people’s career in the community. In addition, the entertaining activities should be presented in the tourism style. There should
be the support and promotion from the relevant organizations to attract the tourists and conserve the tradition.
