Abstract
This research aims to study the components of physical conditions, economy, society, styles of activity, change of community, and architecture
of port market, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. The study focuses on the problems caused by changes of the area which is an important area of Tharue
district.The obtained result will be used to define appropriate solutions for the problems and recommend the ways to conserve and restore the area.
According to the study, it found that the port market used to be a major commercial center of Tharue district but today it has reduced its role to
local market with wooden shop buildings. The changes were caused by the expansion of the silo industry since its surrounding areas are in rural and
agricultural zones. The industry expansion affected in land use and residence areas. The local architectural style and activities of the community also
changed. The results of current condition analysis was used to propose guidelines to conservation of preserve and restore old port market.
The port market can maintain its uniqueness as an important commercial area with its original architecture, culture, and environment. Moreover, port
market, as an old community along Pasak River, should have its area suitable and ready for local tourism and other activities.
