Mechanism of Rubber Planters in Socio-Economic Networks on Space : A cast study of Rubber Group in Khuanjong Village, Namom Distric, Songkhla Province

Abstract

This research aimed at finding the mechanism of rubber planters in socio-economic networks on space with a case study of Taveepol rubber group in Namom District, Songkhla. The group was successful in building business networks for purchasing fresh rubber. This gave the members more secure livelihoods. The result from the present study will build understanding about factors relating to maintaining the group’s strength and can also be usefully adapted by other rubber groups from different contexts. The result can also serve as a base for larger groups in the future. It was found that the mechanism of rubber planters in socio-economic networks on space of Taveepol rubber group in Namom District comprised of 4 aspects which were 1) the main mechanism on space, especially in the form of commuting networks which connected every area among houses, rubber fields and the rubber group headquarters. This led to faster and more convenient product transportation 2) social mechanisms which related to socio-economic and network support. This helped hold the group together 3) the main economic mechanism by building job security with various incentives and 4) outside supporting mechanism from the public sector especially in the form of the products’ price and technological features for more comfortable farming. These mechanisms effectively drove the socio-economic networks. The study then suggested that Taveepol rubber group keep the network strength on the condition that the group be able to strictly hold onto their agreement, maintain the products’ standards and pass on the activity involvement to their descendants.
