Morphological Transformation of Trading Vernacular House to Support Tourism in Don Wai Waterfront Community Market, Sam Pran District, Nakhon Pathom Province

Abstract

This research to investigate the morphological transformation of trading vernacular house in Don wai water front community market, Sam pran district, Nakorn pathom province, which has a indigenous shophouses characteristics, sells consumer goods in a hundred years old community and becomes one of the most popular tourist attraction in the central part of Thailand, to support tourism. The analyzed results from the exploration, the use of spatial model and in-depth interview show that since the beginning of the tourism activity in this area, the houses have been undergo a morphological characteristic changes or the changes in shape, form and space to support the increased number of people and trading activity in five issues 1) changes of the relationship between the houses and its environment 2) changes of functional elements of the shophouses 3) changes of Identity element of the shophouses 4) changes of social relations within the market 5) changes of the trading atmosphere. These changes are a result to loss their morphological characteristic and Identity of water front community market.
