A study of conceptual design of interior decoration in The Phra Ubosot of King
Rama III: The Case Study of Royal Temples in Bangkok has purpose to study about the
decoration of floor, mural, and ceiling in Pra Ubosot (hall of a temple), factors that effected
to the interior decoration in Pra Ubosot and the conceptual of interior decoration by study
from related documents and also study by the physically Pra Ubosot in total of 12 temples.
All information has been analyzed and summarized as the following information;
1. The decoration of Pra Ubosot is separate to 3 parts; the first one isu flooru which
houses the Buddha image (The attitude of subduing Mara posture) and chief male
disciples gilded with gold and is on the plaster base of Buddha image which located near
the behind wall. In front of plaster base has the high seated chair for monks who has to
perform Buddhist Ceremonies. The second one is the v4 wallsu decorated with paintings
and they are separated to 3 types of paintings; 1. Cultural paintings 2.Chinese ornament
and 3.Flowers. The last part is vceilingu decorating with ornament paintings in accordance
with the mural paintings.
2. Effected factors to the interior decoration in Pra Ubosot are separate to 5 parts;
1. Original tradition of interior design 2. Royal tradition of King Rama III 3.Chinese
influence 4.size of Pra-Ubosot and 5. Creative Idea of craftsman.
3. Conceptual of interior design in Pra Ubosot has separate to 3 concepts; 1.formal
tradition which represent to the holiness. 2. Royal favorable tradition with Chinese
ornament represent to prosperity. 3. Royal favorable tradition with flowers ornament
represent peaceful in Pra Ubosot. Using 3 of those concepts will be considered in
according to the architecture of Pra Ubosot in order to be blended together for both
internal and external of Pra Ubosot.
