THE ROLE OF COMMUNITY COMMITTEES IN CROWDED COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT: A CASE STUDY OF SOISOMBOONPHATTHANA 2, DIN DAENG DISTRIC, BANGKOK
Abstract
This research aimed to (1) study the problems of crowded-community of
Soisomboonphattana 2 Crowded Community, Din Daeng District, Bangkok (2) study the roles of
community committee in crowded community development of Soisomboonphattana 2 Crowed
Community, Din Daeng District, Bangkok and (3) investigate the result of crowded-community
development of Soisomboonphattana 2 Crowed Community, Din Daeng District, Bangkok.
This research adopted qualitative research methodology. The data were collected from key
informants including personnel of Community Development and Social Welfare Section of Din
Daeng District, community committee, and people in Soisomboonphattana 2 Crowded Community
totaled 23 people through structured interview.
The result revealed that 1) the problems of Soisomboonphattana 2 Crowed Community, Din
Daeng District, Bangkok, were the land for living-houses building problem, municipal solid waste
problem, and drugs abuse problem 2) the community committee of Soisomboonphattana 2 Crowed
Community had 4 dominant roles in community development: coordination role, public relations
role, democracy supporting role, and resource supporting role for community development. The
consideration against the community and community committee regulations of Bangkok B.E.2555,
clause 64 imposing 10 articles regarding core duties of community committee, were that community
committee of Soisomboonphattana 2 Crowed Community achieved all main functions and
understood in their roles and duties because the chairman and other community committee handled
these functions for many years and 3) all 5 results of community development of community
committee covering developing mind of the people, social, environment, health, and physical aspects
were mostly dominant, although in the context of social development, community committee were
unable to carry out the career promotion matters for community such as the establishment of the
professional groups and the saving groups.
