Strategies to Increase the Revenue of Town Municipalities in Central Region
Abstract
The purposes of this research were to study the attitudes of local administrators
and officials towards strategy setting, management and revenue development of town
municipalities in Central Region; to compare the attitudes categorized by genders, ages,
education levels, work experience and domicile; to study the relationship between strategic
management and development of revenue of town municipalities and to seek guidelines
for future strategic setting and strategic management.
The research adopted mixed methodologies. The quantitative method was
through questionnaires, populations were officials attached to town municipalities in
central region. Sample size calculated by Yamane concepts at 400 persons. Descriptive
statistics were means, percentages, standard deviation. Inferential statistics were Chi-square,
ANOVA-F. The qualitative term was based on in-depth interviews and documentary
research.
The findings of the study revealed that administrators and local officials of town
municipalities in the central region had positive attitudes towards strategic management
to increase revenues; regarding strategic management and the development of revenue
of town municipalities, administrators and local officials were significantly different in
attitudes; strategies to increase municipal revenues were related to the strategic
management processes and Strategies and strategic management to increase revenues
of town municipalities in the central region should focus on encouraging the motivation
to pay taxes to the municipalities, strengthening the effectiveness of tax collection,.
developing local economies to uplift the revenue of the municipality, reforming law and
regulations related to municipality tax collection and introducing measures to reduce
expenditure of municipalities.
